Getting started
Install
Windows
Download the installer from the download page and run it. It installs for your user only and needs no administrator rights. Or download the zip, unpack it anywhere and start ZephyrQL.exe.
Our publisher is new, so Windows SmartScreen can show a warning at first. Check the SHA-256 on the download page, then click "More info" and "Run anyway".
Linux
Download the tar.gz archive for x64, unpack it, and start ZephyrQL from the unpacked folder. The archive includes the .NET runtime. The app runs on X11, or under XWayland on Wayland desktops, and needs fontconfig and ICU (the packages libfontconfig1 and libicu), which most desktop systems already have.
macOS
Coming later. The macOS builds need Apple's code signing first.
Connect to a database
- Open File > Session manager (Ctrl+N).
- Click New, choose the engine, and enter the host, port, user and password. For SQLite, choose the database file.
- Click Test connection, then Open.
The database tree shows on the left. Open a table to see its structure and its data, or open a query tab with Ctrl+T. All keyboard shortcuts
Trial and license
The first time ZephyrQL starts, it asks our license server to start your 7-day trial, so the computer needs an internet connection once. After the trial, the app stops connecting to databases until you activate a license. While sales are not open, trials stay active until you can buy.
To activate, open Help > License…, then either:
- click "Sign in with browser…": the app shows a code, you sign in on license.zephyrql.com with your email address and enter the code; or
- click "Enter a license key", paste your key (it starts with ZQL-) and click Activate.
Move to another computer
One license works on up to 3 computers at the same time. To free a seat, open Help > License… on the old computer and click "Move to another computer…". Then activate on the new computer. If the old computer is gone, activate on the new one with "Sign in with browser…": when all seats are in use, the approval page on license.zephyrql.com lists the computers that hold your license, and you choose the one this computer replaces.
FAQ
- Does ZephyrQL send my data anywhere?
- ZephyrQL sends your queries directly to your database servers. If you turn on AI access for a connection, your AI client can read results and send them to its AI provider. The update and license checks contact our service separately and never send your queries or database data; see the privacy statement.
- Can I use it offline?
- Yes. A licensed computer keeps working up to 30 days without a connection. For computers that are never online, ask us for an offline license file, valid for up to 180 days (Help > License… > Import license file…).
- Which engines does it support?
- ClickHouse, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Firebird and SQLite. SSH tunnels are not supported yet.
- How do I get help?
- Mail support@zephyrql.com.
